Tropical Sun Rattan

Events past and present

In 1997 Harvey Schwartz aka "Rattan Man" was asked to participate in a very special exhibition where he donated all the Rattan Furniture featured in the "Aloha Spirit" show at the California Heritage Museum. Harvey was recruited personally by the museum's owner for his expertise on the history of Rattan and his large collection of rare and unusual furniture and post ar hawaiian art. The exhibition showcased the Hawaii’s Influence on the California Lifestyle, spanning the time period from the turn of the century through the post-war years, ending around 1960's when jet travel changed the Islands and their way of life forever.

Earlier this year, “Rattan Man” Harvey Schwartz was once again asked to collaborate with the California Heritage Museum for their second annual “Aloha Spirit” Show. The exhibition showcases the magic of Hawaii, the islands and culture that has captivated the hearts and imaginations of visitors for over 200 years. The show chronicles the influence the Hawaiian Culture had on style, furniture and decorative arts.  The Rattan furniture and tropical art, all supplied by Harvey, is the cornerstone of the exhibition where one can experience the history of Hawaii and its influence on a glamorous era gone but not forgotten. The show runs through April 22, 2012.

August 19, 2011 until April 22, 2012
